Let's think about this thing call "technology"

According to my dictionary, pondering means to wonder, to think deeply, to consider carefully and thoroughly, to chew over, or to mull over. That is exactly what I hope we can do in this section.

For example, I have been wondering what would the older, established philosophers have to say about technology if they were around today? In conjunction with that I have been reading the works of Socrates and Aristotle, Kierkegaard and Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Kant, Descartes, Hobbes, etc. I am now moving into eastern philosophy such as Tao, Li, etc. So much to read, so much to ponder. BUT my main intent is to see if there is anything in their writings that would relate to the state of "technology" today. I don't know. There is also the field that is called applied philosophy and this involves thinkers like Confucius, Machiavelli, Locke, Rousseau, Marx, Mill, Gandhi, etc. who all had something to say about politics and economics. Perhaps this is the direction I should consider technology.

Starting Place?

Who are today's technology philosophers??
If we move ahead about fifty years, I can envision people like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Alan November, and David Warlick being identified as the innovators and thinkers of the technology renaissance. Maybe future students will be reading and discussing the "primitive" computing devices of the 21st century much like present students looking at typewriters and rotary phones.
